All sites that register with ArchNet are reviewed for content and presentation quality. We attempt to include as many related sites as possible in order to aid users in locating useful material.
However, there are three types of WWW presentations that are not appropriate for listing with ArchNet: 1) Commercial vendors, 2) Cultural Resource Management Firms, and 3) Archaeological Field Schools.
In keeping with our mission goals, we have decided not to link commercial sites (with the exception of publishing companies). Commercial sites include hardware/software manufacturers, archaeological equipment vendors, artifact dealers, cultural resource management firms, and artifact dealers.
We will list your commercial site if you meet the following:
We suggest commercial firms announce their products on Newsgroups or Listservs or register with one of the commercial Internet Search Engines.
ArchNet is essentially an educational site. We will not index web sites which serve primarily to advertise the services of a cultural resource management (CRM) firm or private consultant, as these are commercial services.
However, we will link to CRM sites which make available any of the following:
If your site does not include any of the above it will not be indexed at ArchNet. We reserve the right to point directly to content material at your site.
The Internet is a great tool to announce or find an archaeological field school. However, most field school announcements have a very short shelf life and do not include detailed presentations of archaeological material. The best place to announce a field school is the Archaeological Fieldwork Server or archaeologyfieldwork.com.
ArchNet will not index field school announcements. However, we will point to sites that contain reports or other material generated by the field school program.
ArchNet discourages the commercialization of artifacts because this activity encourages looting of archaeological sites. Further information on related issues is available at the following links:
