Definition: Lithic

Lithic: Of or pertaining to stone. In archaeology, lithic artifacts include ground and chipped stone tools and the debris resulting from their manufacture. This figure shows a collection of flakes produced during the manufacture of stone tools.

A lithic assemblage refers to the collection of stone artifacts recovered from a site. This photograph shows part of the lithic assemblage from Site 12-2 in Bolton, Connecticut.
