Join the Office of State Archaeology and the State Historic Preservation Office in the second annual celebration of Connecticut's diverse archaeological heritage. October 8-16, 1994 has been designated as Connecticut Archaeology Awareness Week. Across the state, Native Americans, professional and avocational archaeologists, historical societies, town planners, private citizens, corporations, and students sponsored an amazing 85 events as part of last year's Archaeology Awareness Week.
The second annual statewide event will include special tours, hands-on excavation opportunities, exhibits of new archaeological discoveries, lectures by archaeologists, and family fun. Connecticut Archaeology Awareness Week is an important opportunity for sharing information about Connecticut's diverse archaeological heritage with the general public and the state's school children.
Connecticut Archaeology Awareness Week is an exciting way for sharing and learning about the diverse cultural groups that have shaped the state's history and about the importance of preserving Connecticut's archaeological heritage.
We invite all interested individuals and organizations to join in celebrating Connecticut Archaeology Awareness Week. Archaeologists, historical and cultural organizations, museums, libraries, and any others who find archaeological education pertinent to their interests are asked to organize and host events and activities during Archaeology Awareness Week. If your organization would like to participate, please contact Nick Bellantoni or David Poirier. Please feel free to call either of us for further information.
