Narrow-stemmed
Narrow-stemmed projectile points represent a problematic artifact class
for northeastern archaeologists. This point type first appears in the
Late Archaic Period (ca. 5000 Years BP) and persists into the Contact
Period (ca. 350 Years BP). This type is contemporary with several point
types and it is not considered a reliable chronological marker. In
southern New England, Narrow-stemmed points are usually manufactured of
locally available hornfels, shale, quartz and quartzite, and occaisionally
of non-local argillite, flint, and chert.
