A potlid is a plano-convex flake which is the result of differential
expansion and contraction when a lithic is exposed to heat. The effect
produces a circular concave scar with no compression rings. This example
from eastern Connecticut shows a well defined potlid scar
which resulted from thermal alteration of the chert.
