A group of hammers used in the manufacture of stone tools. The most common found form, the hammerstone (center) is characterized by battering. This tool type was used in primary reduction of lithic materials.

Antlers (right) were also used as hammers. Experiments in lithic replication suggest antler tools were used in secondary reduction in the manufacturing process.

Antler punches (left) are rarely found at archaeological sites in the northeastern United States due to poor preservation in acidic soils. The few examples which have been found have been identified as pressure flaking tools used in the resharpening of stone tools.
